Oh what a night!

Cocktail WEB NEWS TEMPLATE T13

The Welcome Cocktail party, hosted by Dr Scott, is an opportunity for parents and staff to come together in an informal setting. And for those new to the School, it’s a chance to get to know one another and share some of the stories and experiences of their first week at Wenona.

The Weather Gods had obviously been listening to our prayers on Friday. They delivered a glorious summer’s night, with no sign of the ominous black rainclouds that had been lurking over the School earlier that day.

Parents gathered into their Year Groups, but the balmy temperatures encouraged people to spill out into the garden area and enjoy the new vertical garden and the beautiful grounds that our Maintenance staff have maintained so meticulously over the holiday period.

There’s nothing like hearing the School vibrate with jazz music, laughter and lively conversation. Over the course of the evening, new friendships were formed and old friends reunited.

Everyone enjoyed the canapés. The lobster meatballs, prawn skewers and beef truffle sliders were a particular hit.

Year 11 and 12 parents were particularly impressed by the “grass” that now carpets the Undercroft. It looked so inviting that some were almost tempted to kick off their high heels and stand barefoot on the “lawn”.

As the sun went down, the garden lit up with illuminated, remote controlled LED balls that glowed different colours. As the night drew to a close, they changed colour quite frequently - possibly because the remote control had fallen into the hands of a staff member (who shall remain nameless).

A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this event so successful. In particular, a huge thank you must go to our Events Manager, Mrs Laforest.
