Accentuate the negative

Once again, Year 9 Archdale Debating team argued in the negative, and once again they won. It was the grand final versus MLC last Tuesday and Wenona’s Year 9 team – Natalie, Lulu, Chiara, and Hayden - are now the delighted and proud Archdale champions for the second year in a row!

The topic for the night was that ‘the editorial board of major newspapers should be democratically elected by readers’. The debate was close. Wenona’s argument was that independent publications should not be bound by the views of a readership’s main demographic, and that such an approach would be detrimental to political participation and the diversity of societal opinions.

The debating team has had great support from Debating Coordinator and History Teacher Ms Charlotte Karsten, and debating coaches Mr Greg Mikkelsen and Ms Claire Power.
