Archibald prize finalist Julian Meagher gave Year 11 Visual Art students the unique opportunity to sit under his tutorship at Wenona last Term.

In Florence in his early 20s, the now multi-time Archibald finalist and twice-winner of the Doug Moran prize for portraiture, trained in traditional oil portraiture.

By focusing on the traditional technique, Meagher helped students understand and apply the style. He urged them to consider how oil painting can be used in contemporary practice, something he has continued to do throughout his work.

The girls have since created stunning artworks with oils.
