A Record Year for Creative Excellence
A new round of NESA Showcase announcements has revealed more records for Wenona.
An unprecedented 13 students from the Class of 2025 have been nominated for ARTEXPRESS for a range of varied and exceptional Bodies of Work. They include Bethany's beautifully rendered drawing of male hands holding a tie, Elise's portrait that channels the luminous quality of Renaissance painting and Grace's printmaking work of a serene landscape where water reflects sky in subtle turquoise tones.

Harriet's painting ventures into darker territory – a both futuristic and gothic architectural vision that features staircases and skeletal motifs in shades of teal and grey. Isabel’s portrait painting conjures both a sense of modernity and the richness of the Old Masters. Olivia's photomedia work captures a fleeting moment on a New York bus - a figure silhouetted against motion and urban chaos.

Two students earned OnSTAGE nominations for costume design. Both Shanti and Rosie were inspired by Friedrich Dürrenmatt's 1956 tragicomedy The Visit. Rosie's concept drew on the serpent's temptation in the Garden of Eden, while Shanti created an expressionist interpretation set during the Great Depression.

Meanwhile, Hannah has achieved selection for the prestigious HSC Dance showcase CALLBACK. She performed her Core Performance titled Dance, to Billie Eilish's Wildflower, demonstrating sophisticated technical sequences alongside artistry. According to Director of Co-Curricular and Dance Teacher, Brittany Skea, the quality of Hannah’s dynamic variation and performance skills brought layered emotions into physical form. Her examination also included a six-minute interview demonstrating her applied knowledge of safe dance practice and technique.

These 15 nominations and selection bring the Class of 2025's total to 46 individual NESA Showcase recognitions - a School record. Behind each achievement lies countless hours in studios and rehearsal spaces, testament to both student dedication and the expertise of Wenona's teaching staff.
