Learning Adventures

Wenona's dynamic outdoor education program has been flourishing this term, with Years 3, 4 and 6 students setting off on carefully crafted expeditions that foster courage, independence and collaborative spirit.

Each camp experience is thoughtfully designed to gently stretch comfort zones while encouraging leadership, creative problem-solving and the development of resilience along with genuine camaraderie.

This afternoon saw our Year 4 students return from a memorable exploration of Stanwell Tops, where they spent three action-packed days discovering new capabilities with the guidance of the centre's outdoor team.

It was a wet end to an experience that saw the girls throw themselves into an impressive array of challenges, from activities including the Giant Swing and Leap of Faith to the strategic teamwork required for cart racing and archery. The high ropes course tested their determination, while abseiling offered a thrilling opportunity to conquer fears and celebrate personal achievements. A range of further activities in the evening fostered deeper friendships. The centre is set amid 200 pristine acres of bushland overlooking Stanwell Park Beach. It was the perfect backdrop for the students to build independence and confidence.

Adventure 2

Also returning today were our Year 6 students, who have been immersing themselves in the heart of Australian governance and heritage during an educational journey through Canberra. Their comprehensive itinerary included Parliament House, where they explored the workings of our democracy, and the Electoral Office, which provided insights into the voting process. At the Museum of Australian Democracy and MOAD, the girls delved into the nation's political history, while the Australian Royal Mint offered a fascinating glimpse into currency production. The National Arboretum was a beautiful natural setting for exploration, and visits to the Australian Institute of Sport and Questacon provided opportunities to gain inspiration from sporting excellence and scientific discovery.

Our Year 3 girls returned last Friday after a camp that marked a significant milestone - their first residential experience. Initial butterflies quickly gave way to confidence as they exceeded their own expectations in the stunning bushland setting of Vision Valley. The girls had fun conquering the low ropes course, navigating canoes across the dam, and scaling the rock climbing wall with increasing determination.

"I really enjoyed going to the top of the Donkey Kong activity because it was really fun and I faced my fear!" said Evelyn. Charlize shared her delight in scaling the treetops: "My favourite part was going on the sugar glider because I loved going up high and seeing the tall trees. It was really fun!". Kiki’s focus was the chance to discover new skills: "I learnt how to canoe and the names of different parts of the equipment". According to Alice, the simple pleasures were among the most memorable: "My favourite part was roasting marshmallows because it was gooey and yummy in my tummy!".

Each camp experience has demonstrated the growth that comes with learning beyond traditional classroom walls. Outdoor adventures will continue at Wenona for the rest of the year, with Kindergarten to Year 2 heading to Chowder Bay as early as next week.
