Life beyond school is a key focus within the Senior College, and this signature program allows students to explore the diversity of courses and institutions available for their future education. Five unique tour options were provided this year, including Canberra (Australian National University and University of Wollongong), Adelaide (University of Adelaide and Flinders University), Melbourne (University of Melbourne and Monash University), Queensland (University of Queensland and Bond University) and Newcastle/Armidale region (University of Newcastle and University of New England).

Students were encouraged to conduct their own research before selecting their tour preference by providing a clear rationale for their choice. Each tour has a distinctive focus, but all were designed to open the girls’ eyes to the magnitude of post-school learning opportunities.

Just over half of the Year 11 cohort chose to visit the University of Melbourne and Monash University, on a multi-disciplinary tour of Arts, Biomedicine, Commerce, Design, Fine Arts, Engineering, Law, and Science faculties, as well as attending lectures and workshops.

Designed to open the doors to university life, while easing decisions around tertiary institutions and undergraduate courses, these tours also provide connections for current students with Wenona Alumnae at each campus.

Phoebe enjoyed the Newcastle/Armidale tour: “The Academic Tour was the perfect opportunity for us to participate in the unique university experience at both the University of Newcastle and the University of New England. The medicine and health-science focus was a great way to connect with our peers over common interests, and the practical activities allowed us to engage with students following careers in the field.”
