Student Spotlight

As the school year progresses, we are celebrating the achievements and talents of the Wenona student body.

This week, we are shining a spotlight on Nicole (Year 8), a gifted violinist who has been making an impact in the sphere of the violin.

Enamoured with the violin since she was five, Nicole began nurturing her passion with conscientious nightly practice from a very early age, which led to her acceptance into the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Rising Stars program in 2017.

There, she polished her skills before jetting off to England in 2020, to immerse herself in the centre for musical excellence – the Yehudi Menuhin School. Among Nicole's recent successes, is reaching the finals of the the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra NSW Secondary Schools Concerto Competition Multiples Section. She is now eagerly anticipating playing alongside an orchestra in the finals concert.

Nicole says balancing academics and music can be challenging, so she carefully plans her afternoons to fit in schoolwork, practice, and participation in the Wenona Orchestra and String Quartet programs.

She recently participated as a guest in the Music Scholars' Concert and encourages any student with a love of music to practise diligently and try out for the Wenona Music program, as a way to improve their skills and make friends.

As for her own future goals, Nicole aspires to study overseas, possibly in America or Berlin.
