Blog: What’s Up Wenona

This week at our Principal’s Assembly, our new Student Leadership Team for 2021/2022, Emily, Amelie and Kate, launched their new Prefect initiative: What’s Up Wenona.

Good morning girls. Well we are over half way through the term and we hope you’re still smiling and staying positive. You should be proud of yourselves for getting up each day and giving everything your best shot. It’s so important to connect and check in with each other, but also to use this time to work on yourself and figure out what makes you happy.

One thing you can do to help keep things in perspective is to really focus on the here and now, and what you have and can do, instead of thinking about what you’ve missed out on or worrying about when this pandemic will end. Make the most of the sun and good weather, go for a walk and get some fresh air! Remind yourselves that it is going to be okay and that we will get there.

And as the poet Walt Whitman said, “Keep your face always to the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.”

To give you something to smile about, we are excited to announce our new initiative: What’s up Wenona.

So, what is What’s Up Wenona?

Well, What’s Up Wenona is a podcast show which we are hope to release to the Wenona community once a fortnight. Each episode, we will invite different girls across the School community to come on to chat, laugh and play some games.

What’s the first episode about?

The first episode is called Wenona Doesn’t Do Drama! To help us, we called on our new Drama Captains for 2021/2022, Alice and Chloe, as well as some other students from Senior Drama. We spoke to them about Performing Arts, because The Arts have really suffered during lockdown.

Wait a second, wasn’t the School Musical supposed to open a few weeks ago?

Yes, it was! So, after discussing Theatresports, we talked to the girls who were all set to star in Matilda about their experiences and a little bit about their roles. Jess in Year 7 spoke to us about why she went for the role of Matilda and how she reacted when she got it. Everyone was feeling a little bit sad that the Musical was postponed so we decided to just reminisce for a bit.

Where, and when can we watch the What’s Up Wenona podcast?

The best way to access is to go to the Wellbeing page on Canvas and find the What’s Up Wenona tile.

Here’s a little taste of What’s Up Wenona for you.
