Senior School (Years 7 to 12)

Academic Program

The Senior School years at Wenona provide our girls with an extraordinary breadth of opportunity and choice in academic studies and co-curricular activities. Supported by our bespoke girl-centred wellbeing program, Wenona students are immersed in holistic learning experiences.

Academic Program

Through the rigour of academic disciplines, our unique Renaissance Studies program and meaningful service and leadership opportunities, our girls build the knowledge, competencies and wisdom required to make their mark on the world. This rich breadth of learning experiences provides opportunities for them to test and refine their intellectual courage, ethical reasoning, and global perspective: qualities that define the Wenona graduate.
Our Senior School consists of three distinct sub-schools: Middle School (Years 7 and 8), Upper School (Years 9 and 10) and Senior College (Years 11 and 12). Each of these learning communities provides stage-appropriate learning and personal development programs with students feeling known, connected and valued.

Middle School (Years 7 and 8)

Connection, Engagement and Exploration

Middle School marks the formative adolescent years of exploration and discovery that strengthen the foundations for lifelong academic, co-curricular and personal development. Students experience a broad and rich curriculum in a learning community that supports the development of self-assurance, persistence and academic mastery.
With a focus on learning how to learn and valuing personal growth, students identify and strengthen their talents and interests, and develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to support personal and community success. Students are encouraged to take risks in their learning, set personal learning goals and embrace a growth mindset.

Our Learning Enrichment team work in partnership with teachers, parents and students to further support personalised learning approaches for every learner. This includes targeted programs for learning support, gifted and high potential learners.

Senior College (Years 11 to 12)

Academic rigour, independence and future-focused

The learning culture in Years 11 and 12 sees our students embrace the shift from guided learners to independent young women, capable of shaping their own academic pathways. This stage is marked by a culture of aspiration, confidence, and intellectual curiosity. Our students are encouraged to strive for their personal best with the freedom to choose subject combinations that reflect their passions, strengths, and ambitions rather than stereotypical norms.
Our teaching approach in Stage 6 is grounded in partnership. Experts in their disciplines, our staff strive to provide a learning environment with high expectations, personalised support, and authentic engagement. They balance guidance with independence, to support the development of mature self-directed learners with the habits and competencies to sustain them for lifelong learning.
The Senior College space known as West Commons was intentionally designed to provide a variety of spaces for collaborative and individual study and engagement. This supports formal and informal learning, including the evening study program.

Wellbeing Program

With a strong one-school ethos, our wellbeing approach guides all aspects of Senior School life, providing an intentional and integrated framework that supports every student to thrive.

Middle School Wellbeing

In Middle School, as our girls embark on their Senior School journey, the focus is on developing independence, resilience and academic courage whilst nurturing positive and respectful relationships. We recognise the importance of belonging and connectedness; strong protective and supportive factors in these years.
Through our bespoke Foundation Studies Program, students learn crucial organisational and academic skills, to support the development of self-confidence, self-management and independent learning. We partner with ySafe Australia to deliver approaches to digital safety and skills to navigate online platforms with knowledge and self-awareness.

Upper School Wellbeing

In the Upper School years, emphasis is placed on self-advocacy, personal and community responsibility. Participation in Wenona’s Service Learning in Community Program encourages a spirit of compassion, focused leadership learning and action, encouraging meaningful contributions within and beyond the campus.
Career development programs identify each girl’s personal interests and strengths, equipping them with an appreciation of the breadth of skill sets required for future employment. Year 10 participate in work experience, undertake the Morrisby survey, a comprehensive careers profiling tool, and meet with our Careers Advisors to discuss their academic pathway options.

Senior College Wellbeing

In Senior College, our girls understand their responsibilities both in our School and the wider community, leading school initiatives with positive influence and impact. Students identify personal goals, wrestle with challenge, exercise grit, and practice academic buoyancy. Sustaining a healthy balance across learning, cocurricular, service and social connections remains an important focus in these years.
Our Senior College program provides specific opportunities to explore learning and life pathways, lead and mentor with purpose while refining skills and strengths and personal goal setting. In Year 11 all students undertake an Academic Tour, a bespoke Wenona experience that connects classroom learning to future opportunities through the exploration of tertiary options and career pathways. Throughout their Senior School years, belonging and connectedness are fostered through our small Connect Groups. With the support of their Connect teacher, girls develop close bonds with their peers that continue as they move through the Senior School. Connect teachers provide regular student check ins, monitoring the holistic growth and personal development of each student, inclusive of academic engagement, cocurricular participation and healthy social relationships.

Co-curricular

Our co-curricular program spans sport, performing arts, debating, student clubs and service initiatives, with participation valued as highly as achievement.

Co-curricular opportunities

Our co-curricular program spans sport, performing arts, debating, student clubs and service initiatives, with participation valued as highly as achievement. The House system builds connection across year groups, while outdoor education and immersive experiences develop resilience, independence and a willingness to take on challenge. Whether training before first period, preparing for a drama production or leading a sustainability project, students discover new strengths and form friendships that carry well beyond the school gates. It is in these spaces, alongside the classroom, that Wenonians develop the confidence, curiosity and sense of purpose that define a Renaissance woman.

Extended Day Study

Wenona enhances the academic development of Middle School and Upper School students (Years 7 to 10) by offering expert assistance from teachers after school hours, operating Monday to Thursday from 3.30pm-5.30pm, in a relaxed learning environment, supporting both individual and collaborative study.
The Evening Study Centre (ESC) for Senior College students (Years 11 and 12), enables them to access expert support and collaborative study, whether they are catching up, keeping pace, or pushing ahead. Operating Monday to Thursday from 4.30 to 7pm it is staffed by teachers from various faculties and highly valued by our Senior Students as part of their individual study program.
