The word which characterises Wenona's Senior College program is independence.
Preparation for life beyond secondary school is a key focus in the Senior College. This preparation incorporates two aspects: the pastoral pathway encouraging resilience, independence and social awareness, and the individual academic pathway promoting excellence in scholarship.
Wenona's Senior College (Years 10, 11 and 12), with its structures, its balance of flexibility and support within an academic peer culture, and its focus on independence, responsibility and developing an ethical basis for life, seeks to meet the needs of young women at an important stage in their school life.
Our expectation of senior girls is that they will lead by example. We expect that their intellectual rigour, their emotional resilience and their relationships with each other will be marked by positive engagement with their peers and teachers, and a willingness to work through challenges.
With the support of the Careers Counsellor, Heads of Department and academic staff, girls are encouraged to examine their goals and aspirations, their strengths, their passions and the requirements for tertiary courses.
These are tremendously exciting years, years of intellectual growth and self-discovery, as our girls move from adolescence to adulthood. We are proud that over 90% of our girls go on to tertiary courses. We provide a large range of electives across a wide range of disciplines. Courses are interesting, rigorous and challenging.
Just as important as the academic courses offered are the opportunities we provide for leadership, sports, artistic expression, community service – and fun.
We encourage our girls to participate fully in the life of Wenona and to take advantage of the many options inside and outside the classroom. We know that girls who are involved, who pursue their interests and passions, and who form important relationships with adults and with their peers will be active and productive contributors to the wider community.
