Academic care at Wenona takes account of the whole girl – her learning and her well-being. Our small classes and strong staff support for girls are just two features of the academic care we provide.
Each student in the Middle School is in a tutor group. These groups provide an excellent vehicle for the academic care of girls. Wenona's vertical House structure allows girls to mix with girls in other year levels, provides leadership roles for girls in all age groups, and builds a spirit of community.
House teams, comprising the Head of House and six tutors, meet regularly to discuss student development and programs designed for tutor groups and Year groups (such as programs focusing on resilience, drug and alcohol education, self-defence, study skills, relationship management, and leadership). The pastoral team at each level aims to foster self-discipline, an independent spirit and a sense of belonging in each girl.
We aim to have a girl fully involve herself in the life of Wenona through application to her studies and participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. If she does this, she will learn more about herself and about the world. That knowledge will form an excellent base for answering the questions girls ask themselves in their teens: Who am I? What do I think is important in life? What do I want to do? Who do I want to be?
School can be one of the richest experiences in life. That is what we want it to be for Wenona's Middle School girls.
