Stage 1 at Wenona consists of three classes: Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. One day a week, we have a multi-age grouping, in which we do not separate girls by age or grade. Within this multi-age environment, a girl can see her accomplishments in terms of her own personal growth and progress, not in competition or comparison with her peers.
In Stage 1, our girls begin their formal education and establish their foundation skills in literacy and numeracy. We begin with a play-based curriculum for our kindergarten girls that nurtures a love of learning and positive self-esteem. Their emerging literacy and numeracy skills are fostered, along with each girl's natural curiosity and interests, through enquiry-based learning experiences both off-campus and within the classroom.
Stages 2 and 3, the primary years, are critical in a girl's education. They are the basis for all future learning. Our aim is to help every student become a confident, capable and articulate learner.
Wenona's curriculum challenges and inspires girls.
Our Junior School girls study English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and its Environment, Music, a language (French, Chinese), Physical Education and Personal Development.
At the heart of our Junior School program are caring, committed and talented teachers, who are knowledgeable about girls' education. They know that for successful learning, girls must feel safe and cared for, have a sense of belonging, and be appreciated as individuals.
In the Junior School, classroom teachers are supported by specialists in Science and Technology, Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, and languages (French and Chinese) and by our Learning Support and Enrichment team.
The Junior School Library is central to the Junior School program. Our Teacher-Librarian conducts information skills lessons and promotes reading and other learning and research skills in the primary Library and Computer Laboratory.
A vibrant extra-curricular program operates before and after school. This program has a number of clubs - music, choral, debating, public speaking, art, science and sports.
Assemblies, exhibitions and special events showcase the musical and artistic achievements of girls at every level.
Wenona is committed to providing an innovative Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) program that utilises technology to enhance teaching and learning.
From Kindergarten to Year 5, girls and teachers use computers as a key tool in their learning and teaching. This allows our girls to develop a range of invaluable computer skills. Girls work individually and in small groups, sharing ideas and engaging in cooperative learning. The use of IT suites, digital technologies, interactive white boards, and individual laptops in Year 6 ensure that our girls are prepared for a digital future.
