Academic care

Pastoral care and academic progress go hand in hand. Together they foster a girl's well-being, her sense of connectedness, and a sense of belonging.

Our Junior School caters not only for the intellectual requirements of each girl, but also for her emotional, social and spiritual needs. Social development is as important as academic development.

The Junior School pastoral care program is based on Toni Noble and Helen McGrath's Bounce Back program. This program is designed to impart core values and encourage resilience in children, so that they learn to bounce back when things don't turn out as they hope or expect. All girls participate in Bounce Back sessions during Term 1 and the principles learned are integrated into classroom lessons. When playground and classroom disputes arise, girls are encouraged to implement Bounce Back concepts to deal with them. Honesty, fairness, responsibility, kindness, cooperation, accepting diversity, respect and friendliness are encouraged and developed.

In the Junior School classroom, teachers respond to girls' individual pastoral needs. Additional support is given where necessary by the School Counsellor, Deputy Head of Junior School or Head of Junior School. Together, they ensure that strong pastoral support is available to all Junior School girls and their families.
