At Wenona we encourage everyone to participate in some form of sport. This may be competing for a House in a Wenona sports carnival or playing for Wenona in a Saturday sport team. Sport is a wonderful way to meet new friends, develop social skills, get fit and stay fit.
Wenona participates in a number of different competitions. As a member school of AHIGS (Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools), Wenona participates in competitions and sporting carnivals organised by IGSSA (Independent Girls Schools Sports Association)
Senior girls compete in team and individual sports at inter-school level. Girls can be selected through IGSSA for State representative teams and higher competitions. IGSSA provides interschool competition at all levels from beginners to elite.
Wenona girls also play in a number of district sporting competitions – netball, hockey, soccer, touch football and tennis.
Junior School girls (Years 4-6) compete in the interschool competition organised by IPSHA (Independent Primary School Heads of Australia formerly the Junior School Heads Association of Australia).
Wenona's Junior School offers a wide choice of sports and caters for all levels of ability. Each term, a different sport is played on Saturday mornings, with one training session during the week.
IPSHA sport is designed to encourage the development of basic skills in all players through involvement in individual and team sports. The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment and friendly competition. No point scores are kept, no finals are played, and rules are modified for each sport.
We aim, in the Junior School Sports program, to develop in each girl the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to understand, value and lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Wenona offers excellent competitive and non-competitive sporting activities. A wide range of activities gives every girl the chance to find a sport she can enjoy.
Competitions are organised within the School between Houses, and against other schools. Every girl is a member of one of our six Houses. The cross-age nature of many House sporting activities allows for leadership opportunities and fosters relationships between girls of different ages.
At Wenona we are proud that we successfully compete against much bigger schools. A major reason for this is that our girls are committed and play for each other as well as themselves.
